ReminderX - Case Study

ReminderX planned to design their flagship product during the 2016 calendar year. The goal was to create a to-do, calendaring and note app that would be at the forefront of the task management app category.  In order to provide input into redesign requirements, the product team decided to gather information about select competitors’ approach to workflow design, as well as users’ reactions to the onboarding experience. The final deliverables were a user workflow diagram and a deck of pencil and paper wireframes.

Final Design & Reflection

As noted the most important part to make ReminderX successful was the creation of objects. I designed this flow to not only help guide the user through that process, but allow them the flexibility to add any object in any order desire as well as code them to help identify them later.  These are the final sketched wireframes for the app.

After the surveys and interviews were analyzed we found that all those interviewed have a similar need for a mechanism that will allow them to remember, execute and check off different tasks throughout their days. Although the users are different sexes, their age and occupations range greatly, they are all at the same base line in terms of ability to use a mobile phone – they understand the basics of a smart phone, how to search for apps, install/remove apps, etc. For the ReminderX team it is vital they continue to interview, prototype, user test and iterate their design constantly if they wish to stay at the forefront of the task management app category.

Information Gathering & Early Ideas

Surveys and interviews were conducted on March 2016 to gain a better understanding of what the current trends in task management apps. The location selected was in hopes of capturing the diversity of possible users and uses for a to-do/reminder app. This information allowed us to create the target persona shown here. As the project progressed, I quickly realized that the most vital part was allowing the user to create a desired object and giving them the ability to pick between an event, a note, or a list. I started with a user flow diagram that laid out the path a user would take in the creation process.
